The London Gazette (14.02.1858) writes that John Monteith carried on business at Calcutta as a boot, shoe and harness-maker, under the firm J. Monteith and Company (48, Cossitollah). He married Sarah Stacy on 22.11.1836 and had several children by her. Records mention a daughter born on 21.05.1842, and another on 01.12.1838. One daughter of his, Jane Monteith later married John Parry (on 30.03.1858)
